to enhance the independence of a disabled or elderly individual (in the engrossed bill, "accessibility improvement" is defined as a modification or addition to residential property that is designed to make the property more accessible to a disabled person, including, but not limited to, the installation of ramps, lifts, or fixtures, or the removal of architectural barriers on the property). Limits the period of time during which accessibility improvements will not increase the assessed valuation of property to 7 years after the improvements are completed.

Further amends the Property Tax Code. In a Section concerning the disabled veterans standard homestead exemption, provides that, for taxable years 2015 and thereafter: (i) if the veteran has a service connected disability of 30% or more but less than 50%, the annual exemption is $2,500; (ii) if the veteran has a service connected disability of 50% or more but less than 70%, the annual exemption is $5,000; and (iii) if the veteran has a service connected disability of 70% or more, then the property is exempt from taxation. Golf and Pool Discounts for Vets

DAILY

DeKALB – Military veterans now get a special discount to play golf and splash in the Hopkins Pool, after park district commissioners approved the reduced rates at their June 24 meeting.

“We continue to support out veterans through discounts such as this,” DeKalb Park Board President Phil Young said. “These discounts express the district’s profound appreciation for what our military personnel have endured and continue to do to protect us on a daily basis.”

Veterans will be charged $6 for nine holes of golf or $12 for 18 holes at Buena Vista Golf Course. They would pay $8 and $14, respectively, at River Heights Golf Course. Golf cart rental at either course would be $5, and veterans will not be charged nonresident fees.

The daily admission fee for Hopkins Pool is reduced to $4 for veterans.

Over the Independence Day weekend, veterans will be admitted free to the park district’s golf and swim attractions.

Additionally, active-duty military personnel home on leave can have vouchers for two free rounds of golf and two free admission passes for the pool.
